Two NBA players vote Bronny James to be a starter in the 2026 All-Star Game: Who were they?

The Los Angeles Lakers decided to move Bronny James to the G League, a clear signal that the franchise believes consistent minutes and repetition are more valuable than a marginal role at NBA level right now.

Bronny appeared in 24 games for the Los Angeles Lakers this season, averaging 1.5 points per game while rarely seeing extended time on the floor.

The production was modest, and the opportunities were even more so. Rather than allow his rookie year to stall on the bench, the Lakers reassigned him to the South Bay Lakers, hoping regular involvement would accelerate his growth.

The move reframed how his season is being viewed. In the G League, Bronny has looked more comfortable, playing with freedom and edge while leaning into his defensive instincts and physical strength.

What makes his situation unusual is that, despite the limited role, his name continues to carry weight around the league.

According to a report from Tim Reynolds, two NBA players voted for the 21-year-old as an All-Star starter. The revelation caught many off guard, given his lack of minutes and statistical output, but it offered insight into how players often see potential differently than fans or box scores.

Those votes were not about what Bronny has already done. They were about what some believe he can become.

Respect that does not show up in the box score

Bronny‘s rookie season has featured brief flashes that explain why that belief persists. One of the more telling moments came in a recent loss to the Charlotte Hornets at Crypto Arena, a game dominated by LaMelo Ball.

Ball controlled the night with 30 points, six rebounds and 11 assists, burying eight three-pointers in the second half as Charlotte pulled away.

During the game, Bronny drew Ball‘s attention after a short defensive sequence against Collin Sexton. Turning toward him, Ball said, “DAMN BRONNY, YOU A STRONG A** N*GGA.”

The comment quickly spread online, not because of the phrasing, but because of what it represented: peer acknowledgement. An All-Star was recognising Bronny‘s physicality and competitiveness, even in limited minutes.

That moment summed up much of Bronny‘s season. The production has been uneven. The role has been small. But respect from opponents has been real.
