Turki Alalshikh’s plans for Crawford to achieve a historic milestone in boxing

Terence Crawford’s victory over Canelo Alvarez last month in Las Vegas not only cemented his place as the first three-division undisputed champion in men’s boxing history, but also opened up a host of speculation about his future. Although many wondered if retirement was imminent for the 38-year-old boxer, his appearance alongside Turki Alalshikh, the influential chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority (GEA), has revealed that “Bud” still has big plans.

In a recent video, Alalshikh hinted that the champion has “many surprises” for his future and the information circulating now suggests that the surprise could be the conquest of a fourth weight division, an unheard-of feat in the history of professional boxing.

“The champion has many surprises for his city and for the future,” Alalshikh commented in a record released by Ring Magazine.

Crawford wants to make history

The strongest rumors indicate that Crawford’s team is plotting an ambitious route for him to move up to the middleweight division (160 pounds). The first step would be to face Carlos Adames for the WBC belt. If Crawford can secure this title, he would be in line for a unification fight against the winner of the rumored clash between Janibek Alimkhanuly and Erislandy Lara.

If this scenario were to come to fruition, Terence Crawford would become the first boxer in history to achieve undisputed champion status in four different weight categories, which would leave him among the greatest of all time and with an even more historic career.

An “inactive” Terence Crawford

While Crawford has shown an outstanding level every time he steps into the ring, it is also important to highlight how he has achieved this. For many, the important thing is to keep the pace and gain a lot of experience in fights, however, Crawford’s tactic would be quite the opposite for quite some time now.

Since 2020, Terence Crawford has only been having one fight a year, something that for many may mean criticism, but it has worked for him to prepare well, rest and arrive in good shape for each event.

With the idea of continuing to make history and not rushing into decisions, Crawford continues to consider his future, but without pressure. The boxer knows what he is capable of and if he needs time to get back in the ring, he will take it without any problems.
