Canelo Alvarez celebrates his 35th birthday with a second undisputed championship at 168 pounds in world boxing and in preparation for his fight against Terence Crawford in September.
But that fight against The Bud (41-0) in Las Vegas did not steal the spotlight on his career, perhaps because of his clear favoritism in the ring.
Saul Alvarez and his future with Turki Al Sheikh
What attracts the most attention are his upcoming fights, especially with the contract with Sheikh Turki Al Sheikh, with whom he has a couple of fights left in 2026 and it is expected that in one of them will be the British fighter Hamzah Sheeraz (22-0-1).
Now the Saudi Arabian Minister of Entertainment wants to keep the rest of Saul Alvarez’s career under his control with a deal that will last until he retires.
We are negotiating with Canelo to renew his contract, maybe we can have him with us forever, until he retires.
“In my plan (as possible rivals) are Hamzah (Sheeraz), Christian Mbilli and maybe someday, David Benavidez. There would also be Dmitry Bivol. There are many fights for Canelo, but first we have to see what will happen in September,” said Turki Alalshikh to The Ring.
Terence Crawford has a chance against Canelo Alvarez
For the fight between Canelo (63-2-2) and Crawford on September 13, Al Sheikh believes that the American has a chance to surprise the Mexican.
“We’ll see what happens that day, we don’t know. This fight, in my opinion, is 50-50. We have one of the biggest fights in boxing in the last 10 years.”
