Tua Tagovailoa has disappointed Stephen Ross, owner of the Miami Dolphins, and the quarterback could be playing for his job in 2025

Back in 2020, as the Draft was approaching, Miami Dolphins fans were very excited about Tua Tagovailoa. The vibe and the energy were sky-high for the arrival of the Alabama quarterback, who at the time was expected to help the team aim for big things in the NFL.

Furthermore, in 2018, the owner of the Miami Dolphins had made a promise to place the team among the NFL’s best and therefore a Super Bowl contender: “I think that we’re going in a direction of building something and looking to build an organization that can be sustainable in winning. Not just signing a few older free agents along with a few draft picks and thinking you’re going to be a contender.”

However, here we are about to start the 2025 season, and nothing much has happened with Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins, aside from a few flashes. Injuries have plagued the quarterback, especially the issue of concussions. Today, in the so-called “Tua project,” there are more questions than answers.

Tua Tagovailoa’s concussions, the Dolphins’ biggest problem

From the moment he entered the NFL, it was known that Tua Tagovailoa struggled with injuries, including concussions. In the 2021 season, he suffered a rib injury; in 2022, he endured a couple of concussions; and in the 2024 season, he dealt with the same issue again.

In 2022, the Miami Dolphins consulted Dr. Julian Bailes after Tua’s first concussions, and following what happened last season, the doctor said the following:

“Why do you think we’re back in the same situation two years later? It’s his style of play. He puts his head in there, he’s not afraid, he’s a great athlete and wants to gain a few extra yards. He put his head in without thinking in that split second. That’s why we’re back here again. Same player, same vulnerability, same style of play.”

The Miami Dolphins head into the 2025 season with a lot of doubts, despite the talent on the roster, especially with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle in the passing attack. Any injury to Tua Tagovailoa will be costly for the team, particularly in a division where Josh Allen’s Buffalo Bills are the heavy favorites.
