The NFL is an extremely powerful league, both due to its revenue, the level of athletes it has, and many other factors. However, it can also be very cruel in many cases.
Selected with the third overall pick in the 2021 Draft, Trey Lance may be in serious trouble when it comes to maintaining his career in the NFL. There is no doubt about his talent, especially the one he demonstrated in college football that got him noticed in the Draft. However, he has struggled to maintain consistency in the league.
NFL teams have shown no interest in the former 49ers and Cowboys quarterback
Three weeks have passed in free agency, and no team has shown any interest in the former quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys, which has led to much speculation about whether he will get another chance in the NFL.
“He’s a backup quarterback free agent, just like Joe Flacco, Carson Wentz, Drew Lock, C.J. Beathard, Case Keenum, and Easton Stick. All of them are quarterbacks who could end up without playing in the NFL next season,” according to Sports Illustrated.
In the 2022 season, Lance suffered a fracture in his right ankle during a game against the Seattle Seahawks, in a campaign where Trey was considered the starter. The injury ended his season, and he never had another opportunity with San Francisco and was sent to the Cowboys.
Trey Lance’s NFL stats
Lance’s NFL numbers are as follows: 1,063 yards, 5 touchdowns, 4 interceptions, 56.6% completion rate in 12 games (5 as a starter). On the ground, he has 276 yards on 65 carries and 1 touchdown.
The Cowboys gave him a chance in the last regular-season game in January 2025, and against the Commanders, Trey Lance completed 20 of 34 passes for 244 yards, with no touchdowns or interceptions, achieving a passer rating of 81.0. This was his last performance.
Lance’s record as a starter in the NFL is two wins and three losses, and now his career is in danger, as he has not been considered by any team so far.
