Trevon Diggs says he’s ready for a Cowboys exit at the end of the season: “I’m prepared for it”

Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs has been out since Week 6 and is now set to return on Sunday, when Dallas faces the Minnesota Vikings at AT&T Stadium.

Diggs suffered a concussion during an at-home accident, and Dallas later placed him on the injured reserve list due to ongoing issues related to a knee injury he suffered back in 2023.

On Friday, Diggs talked about how difficult the recovery process has been:

“It’s definitely been hard because, of course, you want to get back out there. But people feel how they feel, and you’ve just got to roll with the punches and keep pushing forward,” Diggs said, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.

Diggs, on his future with Dallas: “Whatever happens, happens”

Diggs signed a five-year, $97 million deal with Dallas in July 2023. The contract included more than $43 million in total guarantees but also features an escape hatch following the 2025 season. Now, it’s up to the Cowboys whether to keep the cornerback, who is due to earn $14.5 million in salary next year with a cap hit of $18.441 million.

Diggs also talked about his future with the Cowboys on Friday, and even though he hopes to stay in Dallas, he said he’s prepared for whatever comes next.

“Whatever happens, happens. I’m prepared for it, and I would love to be here. I love everything about coming to Dallas-the fans, the relationships I’ve built here. But, you know, if that’s not what it is, that’s not what it is,” Diggs said.

Diggs sounded confident in his abilities on the field and made it clear he’s “not having a crisis.” “I know what I’m capable of. I’m not having a crisis about not knowing how to play football. I know how to play football. I know what I’m capable of. I know what skill set I have. It’s just all about showing it, putting it out there, and making plays that I’ve always made,” Diggs concluded.

Cowboys’ chances of making the playoffs

The Cowboys are barely alive in the playoff race, and despite the slim odds, Dallas fans will continue to hang on to hope even as the probability remains low.

On Friday, ESPN released updated NFL playoff odds, giving Dallas just a 10% chance of making the postseason.

Dallas is 6-6-1 with four games remaining. The Cowboys will likely need to win out to have any chance of qualifying. That push begins Sunday night against the Vikings, followed by matchups with the Los Angeles Chargers, Washington Commanders, and New York Giants to close out the season.
