Trevon Diggs makes things clear to the Cowboys after being let go in first practice with the Packers

Taking the practice field with the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, Trevon Diggs spoke plainly about where he believes he still stands after being waived by the Dallas Cowboys earlier in the week.

The Packers were the only franchise to submit a waiver claim for the 27-year-old, according to CBS Sports reporter Jonathan Jones, immediately placing Diggs in a position where he could contribute during the season’s final week.

The timing lined up neatly with Green Bay‘s needs, as injuries have thinned the secondary ahead of the regular-season finale.

“Still feel like I’m the best,” Diggs said following his first session with his new team.

Green Bay enters Week 18 without cornerbacks Nate Hobbs and Kamal Hadden, both sidelined by serious injuries. With limited depth remaining, the Packers turned to Diggs for experience and upside as they prepare for the postseason.

For Diggs, the move represents more than a roster change. His release from the Cowboys followed reported tension with head coach Brian Schottenheimer and capped a frustrating season. Now, with the Packers, Diggs said the focus is on starting over rather than looking back.

“It feels good, you know?” Diggs said. “Just starting over, starting fresh, a clean slate, and just working, and keeping my head down.”

Financially, the arrangement is straightforward. Diggs will earn $472,000 for Week 18, plus an additional $58,823 if he is active Sunday. Although he remains under contract through 2028, none of the remaining money is guaranteed, making this opportunity as much about proving value as it is about helping a playoff-bound team.

Packers weigh urgency against evaluation

Green Bay has not ruled out Diggs making his debut this weekend against the Minnesota Vikings. Head coach Matt LaFleur and defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley both acknowledged that the situation is fluid, with the postseason looming.

“With the playoffs right around the corner, we’ve got to get him up to speed fast,” Hafley said.

At 9-6-1, the Packers have already clinched the NFC’s No. 7 seed, which allows them some flexibility. Still, Sunday’s game matters as they attempt to stabilize a defense that has been forced to shuffle personnel late in the year.

Diggs arrives in Green Bay with a résumé that includes two Pro Bowl selections, but his recent production has raised questions.

In eight games with Dallas this season, he failed to record an interception, and opposing quarterbacks posted a 157.2 passer rating when throwing his way. Those struggles contributed to his availability and the skepticism surrounding his move north.

Diggs acknowledged that reality without defensiveness, framing the next step as personal rather than reputational.

“I think I just need to be myself, you know? Be who I know I am,” Diggs said. “Go out there and perform, and performing everything will take care of itself. I’m not chasing accolades. I’m not chasing anything. I’m chasing, you know, being a better me, being better every day … helping this team win.”
