Travis Kelce did not leave the NFL Honors ceremony with the league’s most prestigious off-field award, but he still managed to dominate the conversation.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end missed out on the Walter Payton Man of the Year honour on Thursday night, yet his brief appearance and unmistakable sense of style ensured he was anything but overlooked.
Kelce was not photographed arriving on the red carpet and only appeared on stage momentarily as Kansas City‘s club nominee.

Dressed in a snakeskin-style outfit and dark shades, he stood out immediately in a room full of tailored suits and understated looks, staying true to the flamboyant fashion sense that has long defined his public image.
It did not take long for social media to respond. Fans quickly turned Kelce‘s outfit into a source of humour, with reactions spreading rapidly across X.
Kelce attended the ceremony alone, without his fiancée Taylor Swift, despite several players arriving alongside their partners.
Her absence did little to dull the spotlight, but it added another layer for fans to note as images from the event circulated.
Ultimately, the headline award went elsewhere. Bobby Wagner of the Washington Commanders was named the NFL‘s Walter Payton Man of the Year, leaving Kelce, despite his status as the Chiefs‘ nominee, to watch from the sidelines.
An uncertain road ahead
The timing of the ceremony added extra weight to the attention around Kelce. The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off a difficult 2025 season, one that ended without a playoff appearance for the first time since 2014.
For a franchise accustomed to sustained success, it was a jarring outcome and one that has prompted reflection across the organisation.
Kelce has yet to publicly confirm whether he will return for another season. While he has avoided offering firm answers, reports last month suggested he is leaning toward coming back for one final year.
A key factor in that decision is believed to be the return of offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.
Bieniemy‘s previous stint in Kansas City coincided with some of the most productive seasons of Kelce‘s career.
Under his guidance, Kelce posted elite numbers and played a central role in multiple Super Bowl triumphs. That history has reportedly reignited his desire to continue, even after a period marked by declining production.
