Travis Kelce puts wedding plans with Taylor Swift on hold: First I have to figure out how to win a football game

Travis Kelce revealed that planning his wedding to Taylor Swift is on hold while he focuses on improving his performance on the football field with the Kansas City Chiefs after early season struggles.

The 35-year-old tight end and his team are 0-2 to start the 2025/26 NFL season with defeats to the Los Angeles Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles, both in one-score games.

The start puts the Chiefs’ control of the AFC West in jeopardy with the Chargers now two wins ahead, whilst the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders have also picked up one win each.

For a team that won Super Bowls in 2019, 2022 and 2023 as well as winning the AFC Championship Game in 2020 and 2024, in what has been an unprecedented run of dominance at the Arrowhead Stadium, the start to the year is well below standards.

They have a chance to bounce back in Week 3 against the lowly New York Giants of the NFC East and whilst Kelce admitted planning his wedding is “the next step”, he confesses it’s second to football at the moment.

“That one’s gonna be easy,” Travis said on his New Heights show to Jason Kelce and Jimmy Fallon. “I just gotta figure out how to win a football game first.

“The wedding will be easy compared to how to f**king catch a God damn football.”

While engagement announcements drew public attention, he made it clear that immediate focus is on the Chiefs’ season as they look to regain their Super Bowl crown after defeat to the Eagles in February 2025.

By placing football ahead of wedding planning, Kelce highlights the intensity of NFL expectations and the mental focus required of any modern athlete, with personal lives second to their chosen sports.

Kelce’s early season struggles for the Kansas City Chiefs

Kelce endured a torrid time in 2024/25 in which he finished with career lows in terms of yards (823), touchdowns (3) despite recording the fourth-most receptions of his run in the sport since 2013.

He also made two fumbles and one lost possession and whilst his postseason outings got slightly better (175 yards and one touchdown in three games) he was practically non-existent in Super Bowl LIX.

So, on paper, his 108 yards for one touchdown from six receptions (10 targets) in 2025 should represent a return to form for the three-time FNL champion, but that’s not quite been the case.

Week 1’s match with the Chargers saw him collide with one of his own players in Sao Paulo as Xavier Worthy, the team’s lead wide receiver in the absence of Rashee Rice, was left injured with a dislocated shoulder.

Although Kelce did manage to recover with a 37-yard touchdown catch from Patrick Mahomes, he caught criticism for the moment as many pinned the blame on him for the route he chose to run.

Criticism then stepped up in Week 2 against the Eagles when it looked as though Mahomes had found him for a routine score on a second-and-goal with the Chiefs down 13-10 at the time.

However, the veteran failed to make the catch as the ball bounced off his body, handing possession over to Philadelphia; who scored on the resulting drive to break the game open at 19-10.

Both of these have done little to claim questions that the future Pro Football Hall of Famer has what it takes to compete in the sport in 2025, as critics suggest he should retire and be phased out of Andy Reid’s offense.
