Travis Kelce nearly in tears as he confesses to Jason Kelce that he let down Mahomes in Super Bowl and “regrets” his decisions

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce opened up about his deep disappointment following the team’s crushing 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl, personally apologizing to Patrick Mahomes.

Kelce, who managed only 39 receiving yards on four catches, acknowledged his struggles and the weight of missed opportunities in an emotional discussion with his brother Jason Kelce, as the 35-year-old reflected on the difficult reality of falling short on the sport’s biggest stage.

His performance came as the Eagles dominated, effectively sealing the win by the third quarter and crushing Andy Reid’s hopes of a historic three-peat and capped off a tough season for the three-time champion, who set career lows in yards and touchdowns.

“Just wasn’t our day,” Travis admitted to the New Heights podcast. “Couldn’t find a lick of momentum. I’m kicking myself for some of the tiny, tiny decisions I made on the field.”

“I wasn’t the best that I could be in motivating my guys and keeping my guys calm, cool, and collected.

“And I put a lot of that on myself, you know, as the guy that’s been in the building for 12 years and seen a lot of football and seen a situation just like this, in the Super Bowl.”

“It’s a tough pill to swallow. It’s a hard reality, man. I love my teammates, I love my coaches. Chiefs Kingdom, I’m sorry for how it ended. I have a beautiful life, man.”

Kelce’s apology to Mahomes

Although Kelce set a new record for the most catches in Super Bowl history, the night was overshadowed by the Chiefs’ struggles.

Patrick Mahomes was left under relentless pressure throughout the first half and third quarter and was sacked six times and failed to establish a rhythm.

For Kelce, the biggest regret was not being able to help his quarterback turn the tide and he offered a heartfelt apology to Mahomes

“I have loved ones, I have the most amazing family in the world that supports me in everything I do,” Kelce continued. “And they were all there, cheering me on and hoping for the best on Sunday.

“I wish I had made better decisions early on to help my guy Pat [Mahomes] out and help my team find that momentum and that confidence,” he admitted. “But I just have to tip my hat to the Eagles.”
