Travis Kelce may not be the only one saying goodbye to the Chiefs: Are Matt Nagy and Steve Spagnuolo leaving too?

The 2025 NFL season comes to a close this weekend, and the Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for more than just their final game of the year against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 18. Eliminated from playoff contention, the questions now center on what lies ahead next season and what changes could take place within the organization.

There is no doubt that Patrick Mahomes absence affected the team’s chances down the stretch while playoff hopes were still alive, playing a key role in Kansas City falling into a five-game losing streak.

Now it is time to turn the page, and that sentiment is shared by some members of the roster led by head coach Andy Reid, as rumors suggest that several key figures could leave the Chiefs once the season concludes.

The future of Spagnuolo and Nagy in 2026

Speculation surrounding offensive coordinator Matt Nagy’s departure has intensified in recent weeks, with signs pointing to his candidacy remaining strong for the head coaching vacancy with the Tennessee Titans.

Kansas City has fallen well short of expectations on the offensive side of the ball. The Chiefs are outside the top 10 in total touchdowns with 23, while their passing offense was trending in the right direction with 3,801 yards prior to Mahomes’ injury.

“There were parts in the middle of the season where we felt like we were at a peak level offensively,” Nagy said during Thursday’s press conference, acknowledging that the team was unable to sustain the production it showed early in the campaign.

When questions shifted toward his future, the Titans head coaching candidate said, “I really feel good about where I’m at,” said Nagy, who has yet to sign an extension with Kansas City.

Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo made it clear that even without postseason stakes, there is still pride on the line heading into the finale. “We’re fighting for some things in this last game that we want to hang our hat on,” he said, emphasizing that internal motivations do not always show up in the standings.

Spagnuolo has been linked to the New York Giants and was cautious when asked about a potential return to a head coaching role. “I’m a prideful guy. We’ll see what happens at the end of the year,” he stated.

Spagnuolo previously served as a head coach for three seasons, leading the St. Louis Rams from 2009 to 2011, though the results were not favorable, as he recorded just 10 wins across those three seasons.
