Travis Kelce has amazed the Chiefs’ coaches – and especially Taylor Swift

It may come as a surprise, but yes, Travis Kelce is coming off the worst season of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs. Even though the team made it to the Super Bowl for the third straight year, the tight end was heavily criticized for his lower level of play – although many players would love to have the numbers put up by Taylor Swift’s partner.

In 2024, Kelce recorded 823 total yards and only 3 touchdowns – the lowest stats of his career. Still, who wouldn’t want those numbers? The issue is that Kelce has spoiled fans with spectacular performances. In 7 of his 12 NFL seasons, he surpassed 1,000 receiving yards, which explains the concern about his performance last season.

In fact, there was speculation that after last season, Kelce might announce his retirement. However, he remains highly competitive. It’s said he’s lost some weight and is ready to keep making history with the Chiefs – and above all, in the NFL.

Chiefs Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo surprised by Travis Kelce

There’s no doubt Steve Spagnuolo is one of the best defensive coordinators in NFL history. He has won four Super Bowls – doing so with the New York Giants and, most notably, with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Spagnuolo appeared on a podcast with Jason Kelce, Travis Kelce’s brother, and was asked for his thoughts on the current Chiefs tight end.

“The first impression would’ve been having to defend him, and that was… what a headache,” Spagnuolo said on Travis and Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast. “Now we’ve got to go up against this guy? I remember one game when I was in New York – I think I got lucky because one of your wide receivers didn’t play. We put like three guys on Travis Kelce. At the very least he was double-covered, maybe triple-covered… We weren’t going to let 87 beat us.”

That was his take from facing Kelce multiple times. But Spagnuolo also spoke about him from the perspective of working alongside him in the Chiefs organization:

“But then, when I got here and met him… Listen, I’m not saying this because you’re sitting here, Trav,” Spagnuolo said. “But you are one of the most genuine, down-to-earth megastars that anyone could ever meet.”

Travis Kelce is heading into his 13th NFL season, and now more than ever, it could be his last – a career clearly destined for the Hall of Fame.
