Travis Kelce enters his “reflection time” while his legacy still outshines his worst season

When the final whistle turned off the lights of the Allegiant Stadium on Sunday night, silence got mixed with the dark. At the center of that quiet and gloomy field we could find Travis Kelce, the future Hall of Famer who now stands at the most significant crossroads of his life.

While the 2025-26 season statistically went down as his worst so far wearing the red and yellow, it also meant the accomplishment of a milestone that reminded everybody why his legacy is untouchable. In the season finale against the Las Vegas Raiders, Kelce hauled in his 13,000th career receiving yard, becoming the fastest tight end in NFL history to reach that mountain peak.

The period to reflect begins

As of now, the retirement pressure is still there and the race is officially on. Speaking to reporters during exit meetings, the 36-year-old was uncommonly candid about the toll of the game.

“I’ve got so much love for this team, this organization, and the people her. I’ll spend some time with them… get close to the family and figure things out. Either it hits me quick, or I’ve got to take some time

Travis Kelce on his future decision

Unlike previous years, where Kelce felt the fire immediately after a loss, this season has been a tricky one. With Patrick Mahomes sidelined by a torn ACL and the team finishing a disappointing 6-11 record, the joy of the game has been tested by the reality of his entire career.

A legacy that overshadows the season

If Sunday was indeed the “Last Dance” for No. 87, he leaves behind a resume that reads like a myth. Despite the Chiefs’ struggles this year, Kelce’s background of work remains the gold standard for his position. In his iconic resume we can find:

  • Championship Pedigree: 3x Super Bowl Champion (LIV, LVII, LVIII).
  • Consistency: 7x All-Pro and 11x Pro Bowler (Tied for 2nd all-time among TEs).
  • The Record Breaker: Most consecutive 1,000-yard seasons (7) and the most postseason receptions, yards, and touchdowns by any tight end in history.
  • Unbelieveble Stats: 1,077 career receptions (3rd all-time) and 82 receiving touchdowns.

Beyond the accomplishments, trophies, records and rings, Kelce’s impact on Kansas City is deeply personal too. Since his arrival, he has become as much a part of the city’s fabric as the stadium itself, and that will not change wether he retires or not.
