In the most recent episode of his podcast “New Heights,” Travis Kelce and his brother Jason welcomed NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal as a guest. And everything went wild.
The basketball icon shared his thoughts and reviewed his failed career as a football player. However, one of the topics that stole the show was a tempting business proposal to the Kansas City Chiefs tight end.
With the desire to revive the “Reebok” sneaker brand, Shaquille recounted on the podcast that a fan asked him for “some Jordans.” Although O’Neal fulfilled the young man’s wish, he replied, “No man, I want some Jordan 11s. I’m like, what the f*** are Jordan 11s?” explained the 53-year-old former player.
This anecdote only served to awaken his desire to establish his own identity and differentiate himself from Jordan’s iconic numbered series. O’Neal contacted his partners at Authentic Brands Group: “We have to close a deal now. We got some Shaq 1, 2, and 3,” he told them.
Faced with two sports icons like Travis and Jason Kelce and with the reach that both have, he didn’t hesitate to ask them if they had a shoe contract. Jason clarified that it is Travis who has one.
“I got an on-the-field deal, yeah,” Travis said. “Off the field, I wear Jordans. Because they have that old school retro Jordan high top from the ’90s that I really know.”
The basketball legend didn’t stop there, and when he heard about a vacancy in the TE portfolio, he quickly let him know that he could count on his support:
I don’t know how long your deal is, but whenever you want to talk about Kelce cleats at Reebok, I could f*cking walk you in… I got the key card.
Of course, faced with such a proposal, both brothers were more than enthusiastic about the idea, especially the older one: “Dog, you are going to be so excited,” Jason let him know.
Although they did not go into further detail, the proposal could become a reality as Shaq has been working hard to take the brand to the top. Proof of this can be seen in the latest modern footwear from WNBA star Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky. Will the Kelce Reebok sneakers be arriving soon?
O’Neal reveals that his favorite song is by Taylor Swift
During the Kelce brothers’ podcast episode, Shaq also talked to Travis and Jason about his musical tastes and revealed that a Taylor Swift song is his favorite.
Building suspense, the NBA legend played “I Knew You Were Trouble” and they began to lip-sync. “That’s my favorite song in the world, brotha, I love it,” Shaq said excitedly, with a big smile on his face.
Travis noted that the song belongs to the artist again after she bought back her first six albums, including “Red,” which features Shaquille’s favorite song. “Shout out to Taytay… just got that song back too. She bought all her music back so it’s finally hers,” he said.
