Travis Hunter’s dual position will be the NFL’s biggest attraction but Cameron Jordan leaves a question that Deion Sanders could answer

Travis Hunter‘s rare ability to play on both sides of the ball continues to spark intrigue and admiration across the NFL, even among its most respected veterans.

After the Jacksonville Jaguars landed the former Colorado Buffaloes sensation in the 2025 NFL Draft, New Orleans Saints legend Cameron Jordan offered a candid take on Hunter‘s potential when it comes to being a two-way player at the professional level.

“I mean, why not?” Jordan said Thursday on NFL Live. “He did it in college and he showed excellence. He was at the top of the best positions, at both DB and receiver. You could say the top.”

Jordan, an eight-time Pro Bowler with over a decade of experience anchoring NFL defenses, isn’t easily impressed.

Yet even he couldn’t ignore what Hunter accomplished under the bright lights of college football. Still, the Saints defensive end wasn’t shy about adding a reality check.

“I just need to know what position he’s starting at,” Jordan added. “Like, if you say DB, then you have to limit your reps at wide receiver. And if you say wide receiver, then you have to limit your reps at DB. Do I think that he has 120 snaps in him? Yes. For a season? Probably. For 10 years? Absolutely not.”

Jacksonville leans toward wide receiver, but won’t rule out DB reps

While Jaguars head coach Liam Coen hasn’t made a formal announcement on how the team plans to utilize Hunter, early indicators suggest the 21-year-old will be featured primarily on offense. With veteran wideouts either departing or aging, Jacksonville appears eager to inject new life into its passing attack and Hunter could be the spark Trevor Lawrence and the offense need.

Hunter‘s skill set on offense is undeniably elite: smooth route-running, sharp acceleration, soft hands, and a knack for creating separation. These traits, coupled with his ability to stretch the field, give the Jaguars a potential star in the making at wide receiver.

That doesn’t mean Hunter‘s defensive prowess will go to waste. The Jaguars may still sprinkle in situational reps at cornerback, particularly in packages that require versatility or during injury emergencies. His instincts, ball-hawking ability, and closing speed made him a nightmare for college QBs, and there’s no doubt Jacksonville is keeping that option open.

Yet the balancing act will be delicate. NFL-level competition, speed, and physical tolls far surpass what even the best college athletes are used to. Jordan‘s cautionary tone reflects what many inside the league understand: two-way players in the NFL are unicorns for a reason.
