Travis Hunter’s baptism might have been a questionable move: Skip Bayless blames it for his disconnect with the Jaguars

Travis Hunter made headlines when he chose to be baptized on the morning of the Jacksonville Jaguars‘ home game against the Seattle Seahawks, a decision that sparked controversy and criticism from sports commentator Skip Bayless.

A video shared by Kristine Love showed the moment Hunter was baptized, with his head immersed in water during the ceremony.

A church attendee posted on Instagram, “Couldn’t find my keys this morning and was late for church, only to see Jacksonville Jaguars Travis Hunter getting baptized! He asked to be baptized before today’s game. Thank you, Jesus, for touching this young man’s life!”

Hunter later shared the baptism clip on his Instagram, which quickly went viral and prompted various reactions online.

However, Bayless criticized the timing of the baptism, suggesting that Hunter may be mentally checked out of the season.

On his X account, Bayless wrote, “There’s no way Travis Hunter should’ve gotten baptized on the morning of a game. He is losing interest. He’s mentally checked out on the Jaguars,” posting a nearly 30-minute video that has reached millions of viewers.

Jaguars working to maximize Hunter’s versatility and impact

Coming off an impressive college career at Colorado, expectations were high for Hunter to make an immediate impact in the NFL. But the transition from college to professional football is difficult for many rookies, and Hunter is no exception.

Through the current season, Hunter has been targeted 31 times-second most on the team-and has made 20 catches totaling 197 yards. He has yet to score a touchdown, but his defensive efforts include 11 tackles.

The Jaguars are actively seeking ways to tap into Hunter‘s explosive potential. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence praised Hunter’s adaptability, telling Sports Illustrated, “He’s a great corner, a great receiver, and finding the best ways to utilize him is something we work on every week.”

While some question Hunter‘s commitment, those around him recognize his talent and are focused on helping him develop both on and off the field.
