Travis Hunter is working his way to become an early contender for rookie of the year, both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball.

The cornerback and wide receiver has shown glimpses o the two-way player sensational skills, which are unique.

The Heisman Trophy winner, who split 1,460 snaps between wide receiver and cornerback during his final season at Colorado, started out the offseason at rookie minicamp working strictly on the offensive side of the ball, where he figures to feature most prominently.

A Travis Hunter revelation about his fuel

Travis Hunter recently sat down with Action Sports Jax to talk about his joy of playing football, his early days with the Jacksonville Jaguars and his goals for the first regular season as an NFL player. The sensational athlete also shared why it’s so important to him to play on both sides of the field.

“Because a lot of people been telling me that I can’t do it. But also, I love being on the football field. I grew up just playing both sides of the ball, never coming off the football field, I have high energy, as you can tell, and I just love being able to be on the football field and doing my job,” Hunter said.

He also talked about the fact that he sees himself as a kid who’s able to see everything that he dreamed of come to life, as well as everything that he ever wanted. “It just makes me happy being in this position,” Travis added, mentioning the fact that ever since he picked up a football, he wanted to be great.

The rookie still has not signed with the Jaguars

Perhaps because of the complexity of Travis Hunter undertaking wide receiver and cornerback responsibilities, he is currently the only top-10 pick from the 2025 class still unsigned. The Jaguars will work on getting a deal done soon.

Before he was drafted No. 2 overall by the Florida team, an AFC executive had some advice about where to put Hunter. “You don’t play a guy full-time at receiver and then part-time at cornerback. He’s a lot more valuable as a cornerback who plays 8 to 10 snaps a game at receiver.”

“He’s the best receiver in this class and then there is a big dropoff. He’s comparable to last year’s big three of (Malik) Nabers, (Marvin) Harrison (Jr.) and (Rome) Odunze, in my opinion,” an NFC personnel director added. Whether as a wide receiver or a cornerback, Travis Hunter will for sure show off his talent for all the football fans to see every weekend.
