Travis Hunter puts Titans in a tough spot that could change its history

The 2025 NFL Draft is fast approaching, and Travis Hunter is at the center of the conversation. The Colorado star is no ordinary prospect-his ability to dominate both as a wide receiver and a cornerback makes him a unique talent in modern football.

Hunter‘s versatility has drawn comparisons to some of the game’s greats, and even Rob Gronkowski acknowledged his rare skill set.

“You can do Travis Hunter, who is a once-in-a-generation type player… He can play both sides of the ball,” Gronkowski said.

Though the former tight end suggested that the New England Patriots pass on him, his words reflect the league-wide recognition of Hunter‘s potential.

The Tennessee Titans, who hold the No. 1 overall pick, now face a defining decision. Team president Chad Brinker recently made a strong statement: “We wouldn’t pass on a generational talent.”

Some believe he was referring to Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter, but Hunter’s ability to excel on both offense and defense puts him in a category of his own.

The Ultimate Draft Gamble

Hunter‘s ability to impact the game in multiple ways makes him one of the most intriguing prospects in years. In his final season at Colorado, he ranked sixth in PFF receiving grades and third in coverage grades, proving his elite status on both ends of the field.

For a team like the Titans, who endured a 3-14 season, Hunter could provide an immediate boost. The franchise has multiple needs, and Hunter‘s versatility could allow them to address two critical positions with one player.

Traditionally, teams use the No. 1 overall pick to secure a franchise quarterback. But Tennessee must weigh whether that conventional choice is the right move this time.

There’s also the possibility of a trade-down scenario. If the Titans believe they can land Hunter while acquiring additional assets, they may explore moving down in the draft order.

However, if they pass on him completely, they could end up regretting it – especially if he thrives elsewhere, potentially with a division rival.

Hunter’s Path and His Strong Message

Regardless of where he lands, Travis Hunter is a draft-altering prospect. While quarterbacks usually command the most attention, Hunter’s ability to change the game in multiple ways has forced teams to rethink their strategies.

Before stepping into the NFL, Hunter took time to reflect on his journey. During his Heisman Trophy acceptance speech, he made sure to credit his roots-Deion Sanders and Jackson State-for shaping his career.

“That was my learning grounds. That was my proving grounds. I had to start somewhere, and I started there.”

His development at Jackson State played a pivotal role in turning him into the player he is today. Now, as the draft approaches, the real question isn’t just who will select him-but who can afford to let him slip away.
