Travis Hunter has made it clear-he wants to be the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft and, if possible, a two-way player at the next level. But while his talent is undeniable, not everyone is convinced his dominance at Colorado will seamlessly translate to the pros.
One of those skeptics? Philadelphia Eagles star AJ Brown, who recently issued a reality check to the rising star. During an appearance on KickinItWithDee, Brown didn’t question Hunter’s talent but warned about the grueling demands of playing both sides of the ball in the NFL.
“It’s going to be tough for him… I’m not saying he can’t do it, because who am I to tell him he can’t do anything, but he’s got a lot of work ahead of him,” Brown cautioned. “It’s a lot of plays, it’s a long year, and he’s gonna have to practice.”
Hunter is a generational talent but…
Hunter, the only player in history to win both the Chuck Bednarik (best defensive player) and Fred Biletnikoff (best receiver) awards, has proven himself as an elite talent.
His ability to dominate on offense and defense makes him a truly generational prospect. But as Brown pointed out, the NFL is a different beast-one that has humbled even the most decorated college athletes.
And now, as if the challenge of making history wasn’t enough, Hunter is also dealing with a surprising development-his draft stock is reportedly slipping.
Hunter slides down in the draft
According to NFL Rookie Watch, Hunter “has a small chance” of falling out of the Top 5 picks, despite being considered one of the most electrifying prospects in years. Several NFL scouts believe the top of the draft could be dominated by quarterbacks, Penn State linebacker Abdul Carter, and an offensive tackle or wide receiver.
For a player once considered a lock for a top pick, this shift is stunning. But it’s not about Hunter’s talent-it’s about teams prioritizing their biggest needs. With franchises desperate for quarterbacks, Hunter might have to wait longer than expected to hear his name called on draft night.
Still, one thing is certain-whether he lands at No. 1 or slides down the board, Travis Hunter is ready to prove the doubters wrong. And if his college career was any indication, he thrives on doing just that.
