There’s no doubt that Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter both thrived with the Colorado Buffaloes in 2024, and both were projected to be first-round NFL draft picks. However, only one achieved that – Hunter – who was chosen with the second overall pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars, who made a strong investment to acquire the current Heisman Trophy winner.
The Jaguars gave several picks to the Browns, including their first-round picks in 2025 and 2026, to secure the services of one of the most outstanding talents in NCAA history. Meanwhile, Shedeur Sanders not only was not selected in the first round but fell all the way to the fifth round, when the Cleveland Browns finally picked him.
Now there are contrasts: Travis Hunter is the new star of the Jaguars, with the entire Jacksonville fanbase excited about him, while Sanders is struggling after being the last option among four quarterbacks competing for the starting job with the Cleveland Browns.
Liam Coen, Head Coach of the Browns, is fascinated with Travis Hunter.
Travis Hunter stood out in the NCAA for his talent, but especially for playing on both sides of the ball. On offense, he had 15 touchdown receptions and surpassed 1,000 yards, while on defense he recorded 4 interceptions. Without a doubt, he was outstanding, but this could be difficult in the NFL.
It has been reported that Travis Hunter will focus on offense, although he will also have opportunities on defense. That is the wish of the Heisman Trophy winner, but there is a process ahead, and Liam Coen, Head Coach of the Browns, indicated that Hunter will have to adapt to the new system.
“I mean, he’s learning to do something that not many people have done, and he’s learning a complex offensive system with many moving parts,” Coen said.
“He’s learning a completely new defense and also playing in the National Football League for the first time in his life, so we’re very pleased with his level of maturity, his ability to seamlessly move from one negative play to the next. And, you know, I think he’s getting along very well with the guys.”
So there’s no doubt that Travis Hunter could become a new NFL star. He has all the potential and could become something like Shohei Ohtani in MLB. Quite a challenge lies ahead for the former University of Colorado player.
