Travis Hunter ‘envious’ of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce’s new business and has plans for one of his own…

Travis Hunter, one of the most exciting prospects entering the 2025 NFL Draft, may soon be joining the growing list of football stars venturing into the restaurant world – and it’s all thanks to Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

The Kansas City Chiefs duo recently unveiled plans for 1587 Prime, a high-end steakhouse opening this summer in Kansas City.

The move continues a trend of elite NFL names putting their stamp on the culinary scene, following legends like John Elway, Michael Jordan, and Dan Marino. But while Mahomes and Kelce are going the upscale route, Hunter envisions something far more personal.

Speaking on his podcast The Travis Hunter Show, the former Colorado Buffaloes standout couldn’t hide his admiration for the Chiefs stars’ new business endeavor.

“I’d want to open a restaurant too,” Hunter said. “But I’d only serve stuff I like – stuff I eat every day.”

A menu as unpredictable as his play

Unlike the steakhouses preferred by NFL royalty, Hunter‘s dream establishment would take a different culinary path. Think less filet mignon, more pancakes and buffalo chicken sandwiches.

“Red velvet, that would be the dessert, with some vanilla ice cream and a chocolate chip cookie,” he added. “I’d sell buffalo chicken sandwiches, pancakes, hot wings, French fries – all my favorite stuff. I’d want to eat at my own restaurant all the time.”

The 2024 Heisman Trophy winner even floated the idea of fish being included, though he couldn’t commit to a favorite.

“Snapper, crappy, and tilapia,” he mused. “I don’t know, snapper was kind of good.”

While answering fan questions in his podcast’s “Trav’s Mailbox” segment, Hunter also offered one of his more viral moments – a sarcastic response to a fan who asked how many dreadlocks he has. “Who’s gonna sit there and count dreads?” he laughed. “That’s wild, bro.”

With less than a week until the NFL Draft kicks off on April 24, Hunter remains one of the most intriguing names in the class.

As teams continue to evaluate his elite two-way ability, fans may also want to start considering which city could soon be home to the first-ever Travis Hunter diner.
