Travis Hunter calls Jaguars fit a ‘blessing’ as team embraces his two-way potential

Travis Hunter is officially a Jacksonville Jaguar, and for the two-way star, it’s more than just a professional milestone-it’s the ideal environment to thrive. Over the weekend, Hunter signed his four-year, $46.65 million rookie contract, securing his NFL future with a franchise that not only wanted him, but understood how to use him.

Heading into the draft, teams were split on how Hunter should be deployed. Some viewed him as a full-time cornerback, others as a wide receiver. The Tennessee Titans favored his defensive potential, while the Cleveland Browns leaned toward his explosiveness on offense.

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh even questioned whether a two-way role was feasible in today’s NFL, though his team never had the opportunity to pick Hunter.

Hunter, however, never wavered. At Colorado, he thrived on both sides of the ball and made it clear he intended to continue doing so in the pros. The Jaguars believed in that vision and traded up to the No. 2 overall pick to get him.

Jacksonville embraces Hunter’s full potential

Now in Jacksonville, Hunter is not only being given a chance to play both wide receiver and cornerback, but he’s also surrounded by a coaching staff willing to build around his unique skill set. That support was evident in his reaction after putting pen to paper.

“It’s a blessing,” Hunter said in an interview with team reporter Brian Sexton. “I’m very excited to be at a place that they let me go ahead and be myself, and let me do what I do.”

While the Jaguars plan to use Hunter primarily on offense to start, he’s already participating in drills on both sides of the ball during offseason workouts.

He’s meeting regularly with position coaches from offense and defense, ensuring he stays sharp at each role. Jacksonville’s staff has emphasized flexibility, noting that they will continue adjusting his responsibilities as he develops.

But beyond strategy and reps, it’s clear that the Jaguars are also embracing Hunter for who he is-an electric, high-energy personality who brings flair to every practice and game. Whether it’s the dancing, the vocal presence, or the competitive fire, the Jaguars appear to be all in on what makes Hunter different.

In an era where the league often favors specialization, Jacksonville is betting on versatility. And for Travis Hunter, that belief is already paying dividends.
