Travis Hunter and Jaguars weird training routine could be the unconventional method to snap their losing skid

The Jaguars are one of the youngest teams in the NFL, with 31 seasons under their belt. They haven’t had much success recently, even though they’ve had a reliable quarterbacks in Trevor Lawrence since 2021. Their last great year was 2017, when their defense was known as “Sacksonville.” They won 10 games that year, but they lost the AFC Championship game against Tom Brady’s Patriots. Now they’re hoping to have the best era in franchise history under Lawrence and this year’s second overall pick, Heisman WinnerTravis Hunter. The Jaguars made a bold move, trading their first-, second-, and fourth-round picks, along with next year’s first round pick, to get Hunter. This was a big step for the young front office, led by the new 34-year-old General Manager, James Gladstone, and the new 39-year-old Head Coach, Liam Coen.

The Viral Video of the Jaguars’ Unique Practice

There’s a new video from the Jaguars’ training camp that’s gone viral. It shows an unusual drill that’s got people talking all over social media. The footage, which seems to be from a session on getting better at reacting to the snap or during pass protection, shows players working on keeping their hips square while dealing with blocks. It seems like they’re trying every possible approach to improve, and that’s great. After winning just four games last season and missing the playoffs for two years in a row, the team was desperate for a change.

The drill, which seems to be designed to improve their agility and technique, has sparked curiosity and amusement online. To me it shows that the team is willing to explore unconventional methods in their quest for a turnaround. The drill might be a bit weird, but it’s pretty much like a workout for controlling players when they’re about to get blocked after the ball is snapped, or for runners doing pass protection drills, working on keeping their hips square when they’re receiving blocks.

Hunter’s Dual Role and Jaguars’ High Expectations

Everyone’s wondering where Travis Hunter will spend most of his rookie season-on offense as a wide receiver or defense as a cornerback. Usually, wide receivers get paid more; Denzel Ward, the highest-paid cornerback, would be ranked ninth among receivers in contract value. On offense, Hunter’s going to take Trevor Lawrence’s game to the next level, teaming up with rookie standout Brian Thomas Jr., who had 1,282 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns last season (most among rookies). Could you imagine two rookie Jaguars leading in those stats in consectuive years ?

Hunter’s a beast on defense, rushing the passer and intercepting balls. That’ll definitely strengthen the secondary. This duo is young, fast, and has great hands, which is impressive, but the offensive line’s performance, as always, and how well they protect Lawrence, along with a running game that was among the worst last year, will be key.
