Tommy Fleetwood reveals the message he received that meant more to him than Tiger Woods’ after PGA Tour breakthrough

Tommy Fleetwood’s long-awaited victory at the 2025 PGA Tour Championship marked a significant milestone in his career after ending years of hurt.

After 164 starts, 30 top-five finishes, and six runner-up placements, the English golfer clinched his first PGA Tour title at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, securing the FedEx Cup and a $10 million prize.

The win was a culmination of years of perseverance and near-misses, making it a moment of immense personal significance.

While Fleetwood received congratulatory messages from sports luminaries such as Tiger Woods, LeBron James, and Caitlin Clark, he revealed that the most meaningful acknowledgment came from his family.

A touching moment for Fleetwood

In a press conference ahead of the BMW PGA Championship, Fleetwood shared: “As usual, I think the reactions from my family, my closest people, and I think just having the opportunity to – I think more than anything, like again, it’s easy to tell the kids the right thing all the time.

“But again, being an example that it can happen for you if you keep going, I think more than anything, it was like, I had the opportunity to show my kids what can happen, and then, like you can do it.

“So I think that was the most important thing to me. That was the thing that touched me the most.”

Fleetwood’s wife, Clare, and their children have been his steadfast supporters throughout his career. However, during this pivotal moment, his stepson Mo was recovering from spinal surgery and could not attend the tournament.

Despite the absence of his family at the event, Fleetwood found solace in the opportunity to set an example for his children, demonstrating that perseverance leads to success.

Long waits and hard sacrifices

The emotional weight of Fleetwood’s victory was further amplified by the challenges his family faced. The absence of his loved ones at the Tour Championship underscored the personal sacrifices and hardships that often accompany a professional athlete’s journey.

Yet, Fleetwood’s ability to focus and perform under such circumstances speaks volumes about his character and resilience. Fleetwood’s victory serves as a testament to the power of persistence. His journey to this point has been marked by consistent performances and near victories, culminating in this breakthrough moment.

The support and encouragement from his family played a crucial role in his ability to stay focused and motivated throughout his career. Their belief in him provided the foundation upon which his success was built.

While Fleetwood’s achievement was celebrated by many, it was the heartfelt support from his family that resonated most deeply with him. Their unwavering belief in him, especially during challenging times, highlighted the importance of having a strong support system in the pursuit of one’s goals.
