Tom Brady’s Raiders are thinking big: The off-season bold statement will make them contenders

The Las Vegas Raiders are entering a pivotal phase of their offseason, fueled by an ambitious draft strategy and an infusion of young talent. Head coach Pete Carroll, in collaboration with general manager John Spytek, took a proactive approach in selecting Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty in the first round.

Carroll’s enthusiasm was evident, as he continued fielding calls from various players and analysts after securing Jeanty. The selection even prompted a conversation with former NFL star Marshawn Lynch, whom Jeanty has been compared to for his physical running style.

Jeanty’s collegiate career showcased his ability to be a dominant force in both the rushing and receiving game. Over three seasons at Boise State, he amassed 4,769 rushing yards and 50 touchdowns, adding six receiving scores on 80 receptions. His impressive production and versatility make him a potential game-changer for the Raiders offense, which is undergoing significant adjustments under offensive coordinator Chip Kelly.

Jeanty’s introduction to the team came on May 8 when he visited the Intermountain Health Performance Center, meeting with Carroll, Spytek, and Kelly, further cementing his role in the team’s long-term vision.

Key additions give the team hope

Beyond Jeanty’s selection, the Raiders made 10 additional draft picks and have now finalized contracts with eight rookie players. Defensive tackle JJ Pegues and quarterback Cam Miller are among those signed, though their salaries will not count toward the cap space for 2025 due to falling outside the top 51 earners on the roster.

Other notable additions include Tommy Mellott and Cody Linderberg, both of whom bring depth to key positions while remaining financially flexible for the organization. The Raiders’ front office has operated decisively, ensuring that the team is well-positioned heading into the upcoming rookie minicamp this weekend.

Co-owner Tom Brady has expressed satisfaction with the team’s approach, as the Raiders continue to shape their roster under Carroll’s leadership. The recent signings and Jeanty’s arrival mark a significant step toward creating a more dynamic and competitive squad for the 2025 season.

Excitement surrounding Jeanty has only intensified after Carroll’s comments on his similarities to Lynch. The former Seahawks coach noted Jeanty’s ability to bounce off defenders and maintain balance, characteristics that defined Lynch’s legendary career. Raiders fans are eager to see how Jeanty translates his collegiate success to the professional level and how Carroll plans to incorporate him into the offensive scheme alongside the new acquisitions.

With momentum building, the Raiders are sending a clear message: they intend to be competitive in the upcoming season. The silver and black have set the foundation for a strong campaign, and as rookie minicamp begins, all eyes will be on Jeanty and his fellow draft picks to see if they can live up to the high expectations surrounding them.
