Tom Brady’s old message to Shedeur Sanders resurfaces after shocking draft fall

Over a week after the 2025 NFL Draft concluded, the football world is still buzzing about one of its most surprising storylines – Shedeur Sanders‘ dramatic slide to the fifth round.

Once projected as a top-five pick in several mock drafts, the Colorado quarterback instead landed with the Cleveland Browns at No. 144 overall.

Sanders, 23, is now in a crowded quarterback room, which already includes veterans Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, and Kenny Pickett, along with fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel. If he wants to carve out a role in Cleveland, he’ll have to prove his worth quickly – and a familiar voice from the past may offer the blueprint for doing just that.

Tom Brady’s timeless advice makes a comeback

An old clip of Tom Brady speaking directly to Sanders has resurfaced at the perfect moment. In the video, originally published last year, Sanders mentioned having a Rolls Royce while still in college – a flex that prompted Brady to deliver a dose of tough love.

“I think he needs to get his ass in the film room and spend as much time in there as possible and less time in the car,” Brady said.

Brady, of course, knows all too well what it means to fall in the draft. Selected 199th overall in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft, he turned that slight into a legendary career, winning seven Super Bowls and redefining the quarterback position. His words now ring louder than ever in Sanders‘ ears.

While Sanders may have the star power – both as a social media presence and the son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders – questions about his commitment and influence from his father have reportedly made NFL teams hesitant.

Multiple reports following the draft indicated that teams were put off by his perceived attitude and his father’s looming presence, ultimately leading to his steep fall down the draft board.

Still, his raw ability isn’t in question. During his final college season, Sanders threw for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns, displaying the kind of arm strength and pocket presence that once had analysts touting him as a franchise quarterback.

The Browns now hold the key to unlocking that potential. If Sanders takes Brady’s advice to heart – focusing more on the playbook than the perks – he may still write a success story worthy of his name.

For now, the spotlight remains, but so does the challenge. And with NFL veterans ahead of him and media scrutiny around every corner, it’s time for Shedeur Sanders to prove that draft day was just the beginning, not the end.
