Tom Brady takes heat for easing up on his strict diet amid new “junk food” ventures

For more than two decades, Tom Brady built a reputation not just as one of football’s greatest quarterbacks, but as one of its most disciplined.

His meticulous approach to nutrition became part of his mythology, helping extend a career that redefined longevity in the NFL.

But in retirement, that carefully crafted image is beginning to look very different, and not everyone is comfortable with the change.

Brady‘s recent appearances in campaigns for brands like Pizza Hut, Dunkin’ and Ferrero have triggered a wave of criticism from fans who remember the quarterback as the face of ultra clean living.

The contrast between that past and his current endorsements has led some to question whether Brady has abandoned the principles that helped define his success.

Brady, however, insists the shift is less about contradiction and more about perspective.

Speaking to CNBC, he said, “I think it’s moderation in all things. I think there’s probably been people who have gone overboard with the kind of rigidity of my lifestyle or diet.”

During his playing career, Brady‘s routine was famously strict.

His TB12 Method, developed alongside longtime trainer Alex Guerrero, emphasised pliability training, recovery, and a largely plant based diet that avoided processed foods and sugar.

It was a system designed for performance, and by most measures, it worked.

Brady won seven Super Bowls and continued competing at an elite level well into his 40s, something few quarterbacks in NFL history have achieved.

His diet became a blueprint for athletes and fans alike, even as some of its claims drew scepticism from the wider scientific community.

Now, without the weekly demands of the league, Brady says his priorities have shifted.

“I have kids, and I have Halloweens and birthday parties, and we’re like a normal family,” he said, offering a glimpse into a lifestyle that is far less rigid than the one he followed as a player.

That change has also coincided with a broader evolution in his business ventures.

The TB12 Method brand, once central to his identity, has been scaled back and integrated into other fitness initiatives, while his commercial partnerships have expanded into more mainstream territory.

Balancing brand identity with a new reality

The reaction from fans highlights the challenge athletes often face after retirement.

The habits that fuel elite performance are not always sustainable or necessary once competition ends.

Brady‘s shift toward moderation may be logical, but it also disrupts the image many had come to associate with him.

For some, the sight of Brady promoting chocolate bars or fast food feels like a departure from authenticity.

For others, it reflects a more relatable version of a figure long seen as almost untouchable in his discipline.

Brady has acknowledged that tension, suggesting that his earlier lifestyle may have been perceived as too extreme.

“I understand the reality of life as well,” he said, pointing to the practical balance between maintaining health and enjoying everyday moments.

Whether fans embrace this new version of Tom Brady remains to be seen.

What is clear is that his influence, once rooted in performance and precision, is now shifting into a different phase, one shaped by business, family life, and a more flexible approach to living.
