Tom Brady surprises the entire world by asking for a month to return to the NFL

Tom Brady is regarded by many as the greatest quarterback in NFL history, and it’s no exaggeration. The now-retired NFL legend stayed active until age 45, consistently amazing everyone with his ability to lead elite offenses – the last of which came during his stint with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In a wild world where we just saw Philip Rivers make his comeback to the league this weekend at 44 years old, debates have reignited about the possibility of seeing other stars return – including Tom Brady himself. Though it was Brady who explained what keeps him away and whether he’d be ready for a comeback at 48 years old.

Tom Brady Says He Could Still Play in the NFL

The seven-time Super Bowl champion had a 23-year career in which he set virtually every NFL passing record, while also redefining longevity at quarterback – arguably the most demanding position in all of sports.

In 2023, after delivering Super Bowl titles to two different franchises, he decided to say goodbye for good, ending a golden era – though he did so while still competing at the highest level of the NFL.

Today, his latest comments make it clear he has full confidence in his physical ability to compete – not just compete, but perform at an elite level in the NFL. He shared this on an episode of The Big Podcast with Shaquille O’Neal:

“I’d whoop a** right now. I could go out there and play. Give me a month, I could go play with anybody… I took care of my body great, I mean, I could do it all,” Brady said.

However, Brady made it clear what separates him from a hypothetical NFL comeback: he’s not willing to put himself through the long, grueling wear and tear of an NFL season again.

Additionally, any such move could be complicated by his role as a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders – a position he would have to immediately relinquish if he ever wanted to return to the NFL.
