Tom Brady suggests ex-wife Gisele Bündchen influenced his retirement

Tom Brady, the iconic quarterback whose career spanned 23 seasons, has revealed that personal challenges played a role in his decision to retire from the NFL.

Speaking on Thursday’s episode of The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Brady hinted that his marital difficulties with ex-wife Gisele Bündchen influenced his choice to step away from the game.

When asked by Cowherd what prompted him to call it a career despite still being physically capable, Brady reflected candidly on his final season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“My last season was tough,” he admitted. “I was going through, I had a lot of family issues. You know, it just took a lot out of me in terms of my ability to continue to play. I had 23 years of it, so I didn’t feel like I was missing anything retiring.”

Brady made it clear that his love for football remained strong, but the emotional and physical demands of the game had shifted over time.

“When I got older, I almost enjoyed practice more than playing. Because playing, it was a relief to win. It’s never satisfying, even for me. You know, sometimes winning and not winning like you would expect,” he explained.

His honesty shows there are unseen pressures professional athletes endure even after decades of success.

Marathon of a football career

The quarterback likened his career to running a marathon, emphasizing that the most challenging parts occur during the long middle stretch rather than the exciting start or finish.

“Everyone loves to run the first four miles of the marathon, and everyone loves to run the last two miles of the marathon. It’s those middle 20 miles that are hard,” Brady said.

Throughout his career, Brady achieved historic milestones, collected multiple Super Bowl titles, and earned countless accolades. Yet his reflections show that success on the field often comes at a personal cost.

Brady‘s comments shed light on how his family dynamics and personal relationships influenced his high-profile decision, revealing a side of professional sports that fans rarely see.

By openly discussing the interaction between his personal life and his career, Brady gave a rare candid perspective on the human side of professional athletes.

As fans continue to look back on his remarkable journey, Brady‘s insights give a deeper understanding of the factors that shaped the end of one of football’s most legendary careers.
