Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback of all time and his legendary status is unmatched, even though there’s some players that could make a case that they can give him a run for his money, as in Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes.

The Michigan Wolverine won seven Super Bowls, six of them with the New England Patriots and one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Brady joined the Patriots as a sixth round pick (199th overall) in the 2000 NFL Draft and went on to become the most accomplished player in the league’s history. Aside from his six Super Bowls during his two decades in New England, he propelled the Patriots to nine AFC championships and 17 AFC East titles.

He set nearly every imaginable franchise passing record to go with several NFL and playoff records. He won three league MVP awards and earned 15 Pro Bowl berths to go with five Super Bowl MVP honors. He was just dominant in every single category.

Brady remembers how he felt in Draft night

Despite his greatness, Tom Brady remembers very well how he felt in Draft night, when his name was not being called by any NFL Team. As a matter of fact, six quarterbacks got picked ahead of him – Chad Pennington, Giovanni Carmazzi, Chris Redman, Tee Martin, Marc Bulger, and Spergon Wynn -.

“I remember Draft day, I was watching at home with my parents and I knew I wasn’t a first-round pick, but I thought maybe second or third round. And the third round came and I was like, nothing. You could see that upcoming teams were picking, you’d seen the quarterbacks available and I said, ‘I have to get out of here'”. Brady said.

The legendary NFL player went on to say that he took a walk around the block, “I had a baseball bat and I was slamming the baseball bat in my hand, I was imagining it what would happen if I didn’t get picked.” Finally, the New England Patriots selected Brady during the sixth round with the 199th overall pick.

The greatness of Tom Brady

In addition to his record seven Super Bowl championships, Brady is a five-time Super Bowl MVP (XXXVI, XXXVIII, XLIX, LI, LV), three-time Associated Press Most Valuable Player (2007, 2010, 2017), 15-time Pro Bowler (2001, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009-2018, 2021), two-time NFL Offensive Player of the Year (2007, 2010), among many others.

He was also named to the NFL’s 2010s All-Decade Team and the NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team. Brady was a two-time Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year (2005, 2021) and winner of the Bert Bell Award (2007). He was named to the New England Patriots All-2000s Team, its All-2010s Team, its 50th Anniversary Team and All-Dynasty Team.

In June 2024, Brady was inducted into the New England Patriots Hall of Fame, at which time his No. 12 jersey was retired. During the ceremony, Patriots owner Robert Kraft announced the team would dedicate a 12-foot statue honoring Brady in the plaza outside the Patriots Pro Shop – the first statue honoring a Patriots player.

Brady’s 286 combined regular season and playoff wins are the most all-time by an NFL player, and he surpassed Peyton Manning (200) in 2016 to become the NFL’s all-time winningest quarterback. Brady’s 251 regular-season wins are also most in NFL history.
