Tom Brady made a major mistake that he later had to correct and apologize for

Tom Brady is helping rebuild the Las Vegas Raiders ahead of the 2026 season. While that process continues and he also prepares further for his role as an NFL broadcaster with Fox, he occasionally makes a few innocent mistakes.

Brady either did not realize it, became confused, or simply fell victim to his phone’s autocorrect when he tried to send a message of support following the death of legendary Fox baseball broadcaster Tim McCarver.

In the message he sent, Brady wrote that the iconic commentator had died a week earlier, when in reality, McCarver passed away two years ago, in February 2023.

What Tom Brady said about Tim McCarver

The NFL’s goat decided to write a message about the passing of Tim McCarver, but made a small mistake regarding the date of the broadcaster’s death.

The great Tim McCarver passed away last week.”… “Tim had my job for FOX-lead analyst-from 1996 to 2013, but on the baseball side. Tim called more than 20 World Series in his career. He was fantastic at his job. Insightful, analytical, passionate, and immensely likable.

Tom Brady

Brady wrote in his newsletter.

As I prepare for my second off-season self-scout as a broadcaster, I’ve been thinking a lot this past week about the more intangible qualities of greatness and leadership. One of them, which I call ‘likability’, came right back to the front of my mind with Tim McCarver’s passing.

Tom Brady

McCarver was a highly respected baseball analyst who spent many years covering Major League Baseball. He died at the age of 81 due to a heart condition.

Brady confused the date of death of the legendary commentator and, once he realized the mistake, immediately issued a correction. The former quarterback attributed the issue to a proofreading mistake.

I apologize for the error and any confusion it may have caused.

Tom Brady

Brady said.

The mistake was clearly an innocent one, but it did not go unnoticed by those who closely follow everything Brady does. Given his enormous public profile, even minor slips can quickly draw attention across sports media and social networks.

Despite the brief confusion, Brady’s message ultimately reflected his admiration for McCarver’s long broadcasting career and the influence he had on sports television. McCarver was widely recognized for his deep knowledge of baseball, his analytical approach to the game and his ability to explain complex plays to viewers clearly and engagingly.

For Brady, who is still adjusting to life in the broadcast booth after an extraordinary playing career, McCarver’s legacy represents a model of excellence in sports commentary. As he continues preparing for another NFL season as a television analyst, Brady appears eager to learn from those who succeeded in the same role before him.

Even with the minor error, the message served as a reminder of the respect Brady holds for influential voices in sports broadcasting.
