Brian Daboll already has a contingency plan. After his abrupt mid-season departure from the New York Giants, his name has surfaced repeatedly as a candidate for the Las Vegas Raiders’ head coaching job. However, if that opportunity doesn’t materialize, the veteran coach has a backup option: the Tennessee Titans.
Daboll’s exit from the Giants came as little surprise. Despite a strong start in his first three seasons, he was dismissed after a disappointing 2-8 record this year.
Following several months without an offer, the latest coaching cycle brought him an opening with the Raiders, where he has already interviewed twice.
Some insiders believe Daboll is the frontrunner in Las Vegas, while others note he’s still competing with Davis Webb and Klint Kubiak. Either way, Tennessee is prepared to step in if the Raiders pass.
Daboll could join Titans to develop Ward
In early October, the Titans parted ways with head coach Brian Callahan after a disastrous 1-5 start. Last week, the front office named Robert Saleh as his replacement.
According to multiple reports, Saleh wants Daboll as his offensive coordinator. His arrival in Tennessee, however, hinges on whether he lands the Raiders’ head coaching job.
“The Titans are now set to hire former Giants head coach Brian Daboll as their offensive coordinator, contingent upon him not getting the Raiders head coaching job.”
Team sources told Schefter that Daboll and Saleh would be tasked with developing quarterback Cam Ward, who struggled in his rookie season under Callahan.
Josh Allen remains Daboll’s signature success
From 2018 to 2021, Daboll served as the Buffalo Bills’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, overseeing Josh Allen’s first four seasons in the NFL.
Now, Tennessee hopes he can replicate that success with Ward. The rookie, selected first overall in the 2026 draft, endured a rough debut campaign, as the Titans finished 3-14.
Ward completed 323 of 540 passes for 3,169 yards, 15 touchdowns, seven interceptions, and a league-high 55 sacks. Daboll’s track record suggests he could help turn those struggles around if he joins the Titans.
