The Tennessee Titans may have tipped their hand ahead of the NFL Draft, reportedly narrowing their quarterback focus to Miami standout Cam Ward.
Once viewed alongside Shedeur Sanders as a potential top pick, Ward now appears to be pulling ahead in the Titans’ eyes, with signs pointing toward a deepening commitment from the franchise.
Sanders workout canceled by Tennessee
The strongest indication yet may have come over the weekend, when the Titans and Sanders mutually canceled a scheduled private workout.
The decision comes after Tennessee had already sent a sizable group to observe Sanders at his Colorado pro day, also featuring Travis Hunter Jr.
While initially viewed as a high-level scouting effort, the absence of a follow-up session suggests the team is moving on.
“The Tennessee Titans desperately need a quarterback,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said on SportsCenter.
“They do like Cam Ward a lot. Not only from his upside perspective on the field-his arm strength, his movability, his durability-they believe that off the field, he is a fierce competitor… So, everything is positive.”
That assessment aligns with comments made by NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah, who said on Up and Adams that the Titans appear fully committed to Ward.
According to Jeremiah, the cancellation of the Sanders workout was a respectful acknowledgment that Tennessee had made its choice.
“I just think they’re locked in,”Jeremiah explained.
“Once they kind of zeroed in on Cam Ward… they went to [Sanders’] pro day out of respect for the career that he’s had and also to see Travis [Hunter]. We’re locked in on our decision. So, let’s not waste any of your time as you try and prepare.”
For the Titans, narrowing the quarterback field this early has multiple benefits.
Not only does it give Ward an early advantage in terms of learning the system and building chemistry, but it also prevents them from misleading Sanders during a critical stretch of draft prep.
In a league where games can be won or lost by how relationships are managed off the field, that kind of honesty could go a long way.
At this stage, it would be a shock if Tennessee doesn’t select Ward.
