What marked its third straight loss for the Connecticut Sun was a historic night for the team’s star, Tina Charles.
Despite losing to the Chicago Sky 88-64, the 36-year-old center put her name in the WNBA history books by beating Diana Taurasi.
Charles adds an important milestone to her career
The veteran has been in the league for 13 years and, after her third field goal against Sky that came midway through the first quarter on a layup, she surpassed the Phoenix Mercury legend’s 3341.
The 9-time All-Star scored 19 points and went 8-of-13 from the field during the contest, which raised her total to 3347 and moved her to the top of the WNBA leaderboard in this category.
Quickly, when Charles made shot number 3, the league reacted to this historic record and shared it on their official social networks: “NO ONE ABOVE HER,” wrote the WNBA, accompanied by a picture with her achievement and the other 9 players that complete the Top 10 of top scorers.
“With her third field goal of the game, Tina Charles officially passes Diana Taurasi for the most field goals in WNBA history (3,342)!” added the league in the description.
Despite this incredible and historic mark, Tina and Sun fell to the Chicago Sky. Connecticut, besides Charles, only had Saniya Rivers (16) scoring more than 10 points, while Sky had 5 players, including Angel Reese with 18, Kamilla Cardoso contributing 16 and Kia Nurse with 12.
Meanwhile, Connecticut Sun is preparing to face Phoenix Mercury on Saturday at Mohegan Sun Arena. Chicago will face Indiana Fever on Friday 5 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
