Tim Tebow shifts Super Bowl picks after Mahomes season-ending injury

Tim Tebow was convinced that the Kansas City Chiefscould turn around an uneven season to qualify for the 2025 NFL playoffs and, once there, rely on their pedigree to make a serious run at the Super Bowl.

However, Tebow’s predictions were built around two key players: Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes. That was the message he delivered in an interview published by People magazine on Wednesday, though it is now clear the conversation took place before last Sunday’s devastating loss, when Kansas City lost its franchise quarterback.

“When we look at the NFL, it’s been a very wide-open season so far,” Tebow explained while discussing the lack of a clear dominant team. “I think there are a lot of really good teams, but I think the parity in the NFL is incredible. If the Chiefs are able to get in, which looks difficult right now, I wouldn’t count them out.“

“If you give Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid, [Travis] Kelce, and this incredible team a chance, you never want to count them out,” the 38-year-old analyst said emphatically. Tebow believed Mahomes’ experience as a four-time Super Bowl champion would be critical once the playoffs began.

The end of an era: Patrick Mahomes’ injury

Unfortunately, Tebow’s outlook collided with a harsh reality on Sunday, December 14, when the Chiefs faced the Los Angeles Chargers. The 16-13 loss not only ended Kansas City’s playoff hopes but also resulted in the loss of Patrick Mahomes, who suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee.

Mahomes underwent surgery Monday night in Dallas, performed by Dr. Dan Cooper, the head physician of the Dallas Cowboys. Kansas City reported that its star quarterback will begin an “immediate rehabilitation process,” though even the most optimistic projections suggest a recovery timeline of at least six months.

Tebow’s new favorites: Rams, Eagles, and Jacksonville as a surprise

With Kansas City out of the equation and its star quarterback sidelined, Tebow’s attention has shifted to other franchises, and he has identified new contenders for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

“When we look at the NFL, it’s been a very wide-open season so far,” Tebow reiterated.

“I think there are a lot of other really good teams,” Tebow added, pointing to the Philadelphia Eagles as a potential repeat champion while also highlighting other serious threats. “You look at the Rams-Matt Stafford, Sean McVay, and what they’re doing,” he said, emphasizing how dangerous Los Angeles has become.

“And even the Jaguars are playing really well this year. That’s exciting. It’s going to be fun to see how it all plays out.”
