Charlie Woods is turning heads at the Junior PGA Championship as he edges closer to his first ever spot on the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team.

The 16-year-old, whose every move is watched with interest thanks to his famous father Tiger Woods, has battled through pressure and expectation to deliver back-to-back rounds of 66, giving himself a shot at the title as the tournament heads into its final day.

After Thursday’s round, Charlie spoke candidly about the emotional toll of competing at such a high level, saying, “It was so much fun. I had a pretty fun chip on 16, but I just enjoyed being out there, having fun and hopefully I have a good chance of winning tomorrow.

“My round was pretty up and down, and it gave me a heart attack out there. But nine birdies is pretty good.

“A couple of three-putts, I made a few mistakes today but overall pretty solid round. Pretty good position going into tomorrow.”

Woods sits at 12-under-par, tied for second place and well within reach of a Ryder Cup debut.

A win or a runner-up finish would seal his place on the team, allowing him to follow in the footsteps of Tiger, who captured this tournament’s title three times as a junior.

Thursday’s scorecard was filled with drama, featuring nine birdies and a handful of tough moments on the greens.

Charlie Woods’ nerves, birdies and the growing spotlight

The gallery in Indiana has been filled with anticipation this week, as fans hope to witness the emergence of the next Woods family star.

Charlie‘s approach shots have drawn widespread praise, though he has been honest about needing to sharpen his putting to reach the top.

With seven strokes separating him from tournament leader Lunden Esterline, Charlie knows the challenge ahead remains steep.

Spectators, including members of the local Birch Boilermaker club, have watched closely.

One club member, Joe Couch, summed up the excitement: “Tiger was the reason why I played golf, and it’s a cool experience to see everything and see Charlie play.

“It’s surreal watching Charlie play at a course I play at every day. There’s a couple of shots I think he’d want back but I also feel like he’s playing well. He’s handling his emotions and there was a lot of commotion but I thought he was playing well.”

The growing pressure on Charlie‘s young shoulders has done little to slow him down. Throughout the week, he has handled media attention and the expectations that come from being the son of a golfing icon.

The Junior PGA Championship is not just another tournament for Charlie; it represents an opportunity to prove himself in his own right and step onto an international stage with the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team.

With one round remaining, Charlie Woods is focused on his game and determined to finish strong.

No matter the final result, his poise and maturity during a turbulent, high-stakes week have shown that he has both the talent and the mentality to thrive at the next level.

As the competition reaches its conclusion, all eyes will be on Charlie to see if he can complete his remarkable run and secure a place in U.S. junior golf history.
