Tiger Woods skips 2025 Scottish Open: But why now?

The Scottish Open is set to tee off this week at The Renaissance Club with some of the biggest names in golf-Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler,Viktor Hovland-all chasing the title. But one name fans won’t find on the leaderboard?Tiger Woods.

It’s not just a surprise-it’s another chapter in the ongoing question mark that surrounds Woods’ playing future. The 15-time major winner has officially pulled out of the 2025 Genesis Scottish Open, continuing his stretch of tournament absences this year.

Back in March, Woods had been ramping up practice sessions with hopes of returning to the PGA Tour. But according to a statement he posted on X, things took a turn when he felt a sharp pain mid-swing. The diagnosis: a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Surgery followed shortly after, performed at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York by Dr. Charlton Stucken. Since then, Woods has kept a low profile-no public commitments, no competitive rounds. And while he hasn’t played in any of the three Majors this year, he has made a few quiet appearances.

Tiger’s Been Seen-Just Not Where You’d Expect

He was spotted supporting his son Charlie at a junior golf event. He also made a quiet visit to Augusta National, walking a nine-hole course. But so far, those glimpses haven’t led to anything close to a return.

Rory McIlroy, who won the 2023 Genesis Scottish Open and shares a close friendship with Woods, shared his thoughts recently. “It sucks,” he told Yahoo Sports. “He doesn’t have much luck when it comes to injuries… Hopefully we see him maybe play in 2026.”

Woods’ most recent PGA Tour appearance came nearly a year ago at The Open, where he missed the cut. Since then, between surgery and recovery, his future in competitive golf remains uncertain.

With Tiger out again, the game goes on-but it’s not quite the same without him.
