Tiger Woods personally shares major health update as fans grow concerned over golf future

As a true legend of the game and an icon for the sport over the past three decades, Tiger Woods has nothing left to prove to anyone in the sport of golf. He’s won it all, been at the pinnacle of the sport and given everything to the game he loves. That love is what continues to drive him to keep playing, despite his body telling his mind it’s time to call it quits.

Woods has dealt with an almost unfathomable amount of injuries, which started in 2007 when he tore his ACL. Since then, injuries to his knees, Achilles tendons, back and more have plagued him. It’s only gotten worse as he nears the age of 50. Most recently, rumors began swirling that he was dealing with another health setback. Now we know what that setback was.

Tiger Woods has lumbar disc replacement surgery

Woods put out a statement on Saturday, confirming that he recently underwent yet another surgery. This time, it was to replace a lumbar disc in his lower back. Thankfully, the surgery was successful, but there was no recovery timeline given, which is a bit of a concern.

“After experiencing pain and lack of mobility in my back, I consulted with Doctors and Surgeons to have tests taken. The scans determined that I had a collapsed disc in L4/5, disc fragments and a compromised spinal canal. I opted to have my disc replaced yesterday, and I already know I made a good decision for my health and my back.“

The general consensus among fans following the announcement was that they feel it’s time for Woods to retire. Many have felt that way for a while, but at a certain point after so many surgeries, Woods has to know it’s time.

Woods hasn’t taken part in an official competition since participating in the Open Championship in July of 2024. He missed the cut at that tournament, just like he did for the PGA Championship and U.S. Open that same year. He had back surgery in September 2024, before rupturing his Achilles in March of 2025. Now, he will be in full recovery mode yet again.
