Tiger Woods keeps fans guessing on Ryder Cup role as recovery continues

Will Tiger Woods captain Team USA at the 2027 Ryder Cup? That’s the question fans and media continue to ask as the former world number one recovers from a recent injury. For now, the answer remains unclear-even to Woods himself.

The Ryder Cup is one of golf’s most revered events, pitting American and European teams against each other in a competition that stirs more passion than almost any other tournament.

Yet, it has also been a source of frustration for American golfers, who have won only three of the last 14 editions and six of the last 19.

Woods himself has just one Ryder Cup victory, in 1999, when Team USA staged a dramatic comeback capped by Justin Leonard’s unforgettable putt.

Woods leaves Ryder Cup future up in the air

Although the next Ryder Cup is still more than a year and a half away, scheduled for September 2027, fans are eager to know if one of golf’s greatest players will be involved.

The problem? Not even Tiger knows. “They have asked me for my input on it, and I haven’t made my decision yet,” he said at a recent press conference.

Still recovering from lumbar spine surgery, the 15-time major champion has been largely absent from competition for over a year.

“I’m trying to figure out what we’re trying to do with our tour,” Woods told Cameron Jourdan of Golfweek, signaling that his focus remains on recovery and broader tour issues rather than long-term commitments.

Tiger Woods’ recent results offer little encouragement

The last time Woods competed extensively was in 2014, when he played five tournaments with disappointing results:

  • Tournament | Position | To par
  • The Genesis Invitational | W/D | +1
  • Masters Tournament | 60 | +16
  • PGA Championship | Cut | +7
  • US Open | Cut | +7
  • The Open Championship | Cut | +14

At 50 years old, with nearly every major title to his name but only one Ryder Cup victory, the prospects of a Woods comeback-or captaincy-remain uncertain.
