Although Tiger Woods isn’t competing in THE PLAYERS Championship 2025, the PGA Tour has made sure to pay tribute to the golf legend.
While Woods was invited to this year’s event, he had to decline due to recovering from Achilles tendon surgery. Still, his unforgettable 2002 moment at the tournament lives on.
In that year, Woods made one of the most iconic putts in the history of THE PLAYERS Championship. On the 18th green, what seemed like an impossible shot turned into a near-perfect pendulum swing before sinking in the cup.
This remarkable putt earned Woods a birdie and a permanent place in golf history.
PGA Tour is determined to honor Woods
Though Woods couldn’t attend this time, the PGA Tour honored his legacy by recreating the exact spot where the putt occurred. They placed the hole in the same location and marked it with a tribute that reads “Tiger Woods 3/25/2002” and Gary Koch’s famous commentary line was alongside it.
“‘Better than most!’ – Gary Koch.”
The tribute allows players the chance to attempt to replicate Woods’ legendary shot, and someone did just that.
Ahead of the tournament, TPC Sawgrass hosted the 2025 Creator Classic, where Grant Horvat emerged victorious, winning by one stroke.
However, it was Nick Stubbe, aka Fat Perez from the Bob Does Sport YouTube channel, who made the most waves. He set up a shot from the exact location where Woods made his famous putt, and with impressive precision, Fat Perez replicated the moment by sinking the ball in almost the same way.
This stunning tribute to Tiger Woods was a fitting acknowledgment of his impact on the game. Even though he wasn’t physically present at THE PLAYERS Championship 2025, Woods’ influence on golf is undeniable, continuing to inspire players and fans alike.
