Tiger Woods enters treatment after DUI arrest as insider says he is ’embarrassed and ashamed’

Tiger Woods is said to be experiencing deep embarrassment and regret following his most recent DUI-related arrest. That’s according to a source who spoke to PEOPLE claiming the 50-year-old golf icon has been left shaken by the public fallout and is now focusing on addressing personal challenges.

Known for his intense drive and private nature, Woods is reportedly taking the incident seriously and has begun seeking treatment at a facility outside the United States. Those close to the situation suggest he is intent on confronting the issues that led to the arrest and working toward a more stable path forward.

“Tiger can be defensive at times but he was embarrassed and ashamed at the latest accident,” the source stated.

“He wants to fix his problems. There is nobody more interested in seeing Tiger come out a winner again than Tiger. He doesn’t do well with defeat and embarrassing public situations.”

According to police documents and a probable cause affidavit, Woods was arrested after his Range Rover crashed on a two-lane road near his home on Jupiter Island, Florida, on March 27. Deputies reportedly found two hydrocodone pills in his pants pocket and conducted a field sobriety assessment.

Officers noted indicators they believed were consistent with impairment, including bloodshot, glassy eyes and dilated pupils. Bodycam footage later showed Woods asking if he was being taken into custody as officers placed him in handcuffs, while a deputy said he believed Woods‘ normal faculties were impaired. During transport to the Martin County jail, Woods was seen hiccuping and appearing uncomfortable.

Authorities confirmed he registered zero alcohol on a Breathalyzer test but refused a urinalysis, leading investigators to suspect impairment from medication or another substance. He was charged with DUI with property damage, careless driving, and refusal to submit to a lawful urine test.

Stepping away for treatment and recovery

Four days after the arrest, Woods released a statement acknowledging the seriousness of the situation and confirming he would be stepping away to focus on his health.

“I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery,” wrote Woods.

He said he understood the gravity of what had happened and emphasized that time away was necessary to prioritize his well-being and work toward lasting recovery. Woods added that he hoped to return in a healthier and more focused state, both personally and professionally. He also asked for privacy for his family and loved ones while he navigates treatment and recovery efforts.

Despite the scrutiny, reports suggest Woods is committed to completing treatment outside the United States and rebuilding his routine.
