Tiger Woods will look to make a big push to ensure he is golf ready for the TGL tournament so that the sporting legend avoids disappointing his own child, Charlie, after a torrid 2023 and 2024.
The 48-year-old has struggled for physical fitness and has not been spotted playing competitively since the Open Championship in July, with his troubles so severe he had to undergo back surgery.
He was due to compete at the 2024 Hero World Challenge but had to skip out on that and turn his attention to punditry and commentary instead, with fans beginning to become concerned they may never see the 15x major winner swing professionally again.
But that is not in the interests of Woods, as he says he plans to make a comeback in the future to finally get on the fairway for the first time in almost six months and bids to make the cut for the first time since the Masters in April.
“I’m not tournament shape yet,” Woods told media on December 10, explaining why he had to skip the PNC Championship. “I’m still not there.
“These are 20 of the best players in the world, and I’m not sharp enough to compete against them at this level. So when I’m ready to compete and play at this level, then I will.”
When could Tiger Woods return?
Woods shocked the world in 2019 when he emerged as the champion of the Masters in an inspired performance that absolutely smashed his next-best majors finish of 21st place in that same year.
But since then, he’s slipped back into being largely absent from the tour as the competitive force he is renowned for due to injuries.
So with his return on the horizon, when might he actually be back? Fans should look to the TGL golf tournament when he will compete with his Jupiter Links Golf Club team on January 14.
Woods captains the team and will be partnered with Max Homa, Tom Kim, and Kevin Kisner in an event that is PGA-affiliated and blends modern technology with the classic approach of playing golf.
