Tiger Woods arrested after a car accident in Florida for driving under the influence

Tiger Woods, the 15-time major champion and one of golf’s most iconic figures, was involved in a rollover car accident on Friday afternoon on Jupiter Island, Florida, according to local authorities.

Since news first broke of the crash, it has been confirmed that Woods has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

Sheriff John Budensiek, from the Martin County sheriff’s office in Florida, told reporters Woods showed “signs of impairment” after the incident.

Woods took a negative breath test after the crash, but refused to provide a urine sample.

Budensiek added: “When it came time for us to ask for a urinalysis test, he refused, and so he has been charged with DUI, property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.”

The incident, reported by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, occurred around 2 p.m. and involved two vehicles, with one ending up on its side.

Details regarding Woods‘s current health status remain limited as of Saturday morning, and officials have not yet released a comprehensive statement on his condition.

Initial reports from ABC News indicate that while the crash was serious, there were no immediately lifethreatening injuries reported at the scene.

An eyewitness cited by TMZ Sports said that he appeared “okay” and did not show signs of serious harm following the accident.

The sheriff’s office has noted that one person involved in the crash was in stable condition and another declined medical treatment, and no injuries were definitively confirmed, though the investigation is ongoing.

Tiger Woods, 50, has a complex history with automobile accidents, making this latest event particularly concerning for fans and the golf world alike.

In 2021, he suffered a nearcareerending crash in California during which his SUV rolled over multiple times, leaving him with significant leg injuries that required extensive surgery and rehabilitation.

Despite persistent health challenges over the last several years, including back surgeries, a ruptured Achilles tendon, and a prolonged absence from full tour competition, Woods had recently signaled a return to competitive golf.

He participated in the TGL Finals earlier this week, marking his first professional action in more than a year after recovering from injury, and had been preparing for upcoming tournaments including the Masters and the US Senior Open.

Historic resilience and future uncertainties

Tiger Woods is widely regarded as one of the most resilient athletes in sports history, having overcome numerous physical setbacks and personal challenges over the course of his storied career.

From multiple back surgeries to his highprofile 2021 rollover crash that nearly resulted in permanent disability, Woods has repeatedly defied expectations to return to competition.

However, the timing of Friday’s accident, coming just days after his competitive comeback, compounds concerns about his ability to return to elite golf.

His participation in the upcoming 2026 Masters Tournament remains uncertain, and a recent statement from former President Donald Trump suggested that Woods would not compete this year, although he may attend as a spectator or in other ceremonial capacities.

At present, the focus remains on determining the full extent of Woods’ condition following the rollover crash.

Authorities have promised further updates as the investigation continues, and fans around the globe are hoping that the golfing great escapes with minimal injury.

With a career that has included some of the greatest highs in the sport and personal challenges that would sideline many, Tiger Woods‘s response to this incident will be watched closely as he navigates yet another chapter in his remarkable life and career.
