Thunder players Jaylin Williams and Jalen Williams were constantly confused by fans since college days

Jalen Williams and Jaylin Williams have become vital pieces in the Oklahoma City Thunder’s success story. These two rising stars form the perfect supporting duo for the team’s leader and reigning NBA MVP, Canadian superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Both players joined the Thunder when the team drafted them in 2022, quickly growing into key contributors.

Despite sharing almost identical names and playing for the same NBA franchise, Jalen and Jaylin aren’t related. Jalen entered the league as the 12th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, while Jaylin was selected 34th overall later that same night. Jaylin actually told MARCA that people constantly mix up their highlight plays because of their similar names – a funny challenge they’ve learned to handle.

Jaylin Williams comes from Fort Smith, Arkansas. His basketball journey started at Northside High School, where he played alongside his future Thunder teammate Isaiah Joe. After a strong high school career, he played college basketball for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks from 2020 to 2022 before entering the NBA draft.

Jalen Williams was born in Colorado but grew up mostly in Gilbert, Arizona after moving there at age seven. He starred at Perry High School before playing three seasons for Santa Clara University. His NBA selection made history – he became Santa Clara’s first drafted player since the legendary Steve Nash in 1996.

Since joining the Thunder, Jalen has impressed everyone as a dynamic forward. His outstanding rookie season earned him a well-deserved spot on the 2023 NBA All-Rookie First Team alongside other young stars like Paolo Banchero and Keegan Murray. Both Williamses have shown rapid development in Oklahoma’s system.

From draft night teammates to close friends, Jalen and Jaylin are now competing side-by-side on basketball’s biggest stage. They’re currently battling the Indiana Pacers in the NBA Finals, helping lead the Thunder’s charge toward the coveted Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy – a journey they’re making together, one rebound and assist at a time.
