The Mets have made their decision regarding Carlos Mendoza, the manager who failed to lead the team to the Major League Baseball postseason. Last Sunday’s loss to the Miami Marlins was disastrous for their attempts to reach October. Mendoza issued some self-critical words about the results obtained in the regular phase of MLB.

“There are no words to describe what we are going through. It’s frustration,” he said. And his feelings are understandable, as the unimaginable happened. The Mets were eliminated after failing to achieve a simple and straightforward goal: to beat the Marlins. The Queens team came into the game as heavy favorites, however, they could not overcome Miami’s four-run rally in the fourth inning.

Juan Soto justified New York Mets’ terrible season due to “injuries”

After being left out of the postseason, outfielder Juan Soto described this event bluntly to the press: “Every time you don’t make the playoffs or win the championship, it’s a failure.” Beyond taking responsibility for the team’s current situation, the Dominican offered a justification by saying that the season was affected by injuries.

“They got injured. They were incredible at the beginning of the year. They started to get injured, and that’s when everything started to go wrong,” said the Santo Domingo native. He also acknowledged that the only way to get out of this moment: “We just have to win games. That’s the only thing we have to change.“

Carlos Mendoza will be Mets manager for 2026

Carlos Mendoza will remain the Mets’ manager for the 2026 season, president of baseball operations David Stearns said Monday. Speaking to reporters at Citi Field, Stearns explained why he still trusts Mendoza, who led the team to the National League Championship Series in his first season last year.

“I believe Carlos has the same traits and assets that I believed in when I hired him two years ago,” Stearns said. “I still believe he’s a very good coach, and I think he’s going to prove that.” In that sense, the manager also took responsibility for the team’s disappointing results. “I’m the architect of the team. I’m responsible for it,” he concluded.
