This is how the battle for MVP is going between Aaron Judge and Cal Raleigh

The 2025 MLB season is approaching its final stretch and the conversation for the American League MVP has gained momentum with two names at the forefront: Yankees icon Aaron Judge and Mariners’ powerful catcher Cal Raleigh. Both are having a high-impact campaign, but with different styles and strengths that fuel the debate.

While Judge leads in advanced statistics such as WAR and OPS, Raleigh has become a power machine, surpassing 40 home runs as a catcher, a feat reserved for few in recent history. The race for the Most Valuable Player award is far from decided and every game could tip the balance.

Aaron Judge leads in WAR and offensive efficiency

With a WAR of 6.6, Aaron Judge remains the most valuable player in terms of overall impact on the game, also leading in OPS with 1.114, a figure that reflects his ability to get on base and do damage. His 37 home runs and 86 RBIs put him among the league’s offensive leaders, but it is his consistency at the plate that keeps him as the favorite.

Judge not only hits with power, but has also elevated his defense and leadership in New York, factors that voters consider when handing out the award. If he can finish the season strong and lead the Yankees to the postseason, his candidacy carries even more weight.

Cal Raleigh makes history with the power of his bat

Cal Raleigh is having a historic season as a catcher with 44 home runs and 89 RBIs. He has surpassed all players in home runs, including designated hitters and outfielders. His .946 OPS is extremely high for his position and his 5.4 WAR shows that he also provides value beyond power.

What makes his performance even more impressive is that Raleigh does it from one of the most demanding positions on the diamond. His work at the plate, coupled with an explosive offense, makes him a legitimate contender. If the Mariners make the playoffs, his profile could rise among voters.

The battle for the 2025 American League MVP is wide open and could be decided in the final games of the season.
