the fight between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn, scheduled for April 26 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, had its first round at the press conference held in Manchester. During the event, insults were hurled until in the face-to-face,Eubank pulled an egg out of his pocket and smashed it in Benn’s face, in clear allusion to the excuse given by Conor to justify his 2022 positive.
Benn’s reaction was not long in coming. He went for Eubank and the security guards had to intervene to separate the two boxers
This fight was scheduled for October 2022 but was cancelled after Benn tested positive for clomiphene, a female fertility booster that elevates testosterone levels in men. Benn has always maintained that he did not intentionally or deliberately take banned substances.
His team presented a detailed report of his diet in the days leading up to the tests to argue that excessive egg consumption could be behind the adverse result. In February 2023, the World Boxing Council consulted a nutritionist who endorsed this theory and reinstated the British boxer in the rankings.
Before the ‘egg in the face’, words had already become the first blows between the two contenders. “I’m excited to end this man’s career,” said Benn, 28, who has won all 23 of his fights, 14 by KO, referring to Eubank (34 wins, 25 by KO and three defeats, one by KO) who responded: “I’m going to beat him because I’m a better boxer in every way.”
