The Yankees’ most criticized player, Anthony Volpe, surpasses Bryce Harper and Fernando Tatis Jr. in home runs

He has failed with throws to first base, his reflexes are not optimal with wild ground balls to his position and he even has trouble passing the ball to second base. However, it turns out that Anthony Volpe, who in 2025 has earned the criticism of New York Yankees fans for all of the above, has been more effective at hitting than several “superstars” in the MLB. That’s right, the New York shortstop has more home runs than other great players.

Anthony Volpe has poor productivity when he stands in the batter’s box, where he has a .219 average. In 429 at-bats (in 120 games) he has 94 hits and has struck out 111 times. But incredibly, he has hit more home runs (18) than some big-name players like Bryce Harper, Fernando Tatis Jr, Corey Seager and Bobby Witt Jr. It’s certainly an irony, and there’s even a logical reason for this statistic.

Anthony Volpe has more home runs than some MLB stars

In a year where the New York Yankees have had their ups and downs, and are currently in free fall, Volpe has been a hot topic of conversation among fans. Despite the criticism, the young shortstop has shown that he can hit the ball over the fence more often than some of the bigger names in MLB. His ability to hit long balls has been a surprise, especially considering the initial expectations.

The numbers don’t lie, and while Volpe has struggled in other areas of the game, his hitting power is undeniable. However, MLB specialists have indicated that Harper, Tatis Jr. and Seager are known for their ability to change the game with a single swing where they play for the team and it is not necessary to hit the whole stick to get their teammates to the register. A well-hit ball to the outfield is enough to be effective individually and collectively.

Volpe’s home runs justify his starting role with the Yankees

Meanwhile, some people think that Anthony Volpe has no strategy at the plate, he just gets into the batter’s box and lets the bat fly to its fullest. The debate over the effectiveness of the young prospect remains a hot topic among Yankees fans. Some argue that his contribution in terms of home runs is enough to justify his place on the team, while others believe he needs to improve in other areas to be considered a true star.

However, there is no denying that his ability to connect with the ball with power has been a bright spot in a difficult season. With the end of the season approaching, it will be interesting to see if Anthony Volpe can keep up his pace and continue to surprise the critics. The Yankees will need every one of those home runs if they are to have a shot at the postseason. For now, the shortstop has shown that, despite the criticism, he can be a game-changer in the Bronx Bombers’ lineup.
