The Yankees may be wasting a unique talent while searching for other stars

The New York Yankees are going through an offseason of important decisions with the constant pressure to return to prominence in October. The obsession with attracting superstars and reshaping their roster from free agency seems to have displaced a bet that in the eyes of many was already at home: Jasson Dominguez. At 22 years of age, the Dominican outfielder has offered signs of being much more than a promise, but his development seems to have been relegated to the background.

His brief postseason appearance, limited to one at-bat that ended in a double, left some questions in the Bronx environment related to what the plan is for Jasson Dominguez and how they are going to develop the player. The Yankees have drawn up new strategies for the next campaign, but have not said whether the Dominican is in their plans or will continue to be relegated without many opportunities.

Yankees 2026: Is it worth signing stars or developing Jason Dominguez?

Instead of investing time and development in its own talent, the franchise seems determined to solve its needs with signings. However, relying on external stars has proven not to be a guarantee of success in the Bronx. Meanwhile, Dominguez has shown his qualities by combining speed, power, vision and a competitive attitude unusual for his age, but he has not found space in the Yankees’ ninth.

Aaron Boone has made it clear that they consider him part of their future, but statements like “I hope he’s in the mix to be that guy” sound more like uncertainty than endorsement. While in the New York environment we talk about players with million-dollar contracts, the evolution of a player who could lead and, above all, who belongs to the franchise has been put on hold.

Jasson Dominguez stats: Is he ready to start for the Yankees?

Jasson Dominguez’s case reflects a worrying pattern in the team’s culture, such as impatience to develop players from below. Jasson may have had defensive difficulties and his hitting from the right side still needs adjustments, but nothing unusual for someone of his age, but something they have been wasting is his ability to impact in key moments, winning mentality and his potential, still not fully exploited

The Yankees may start to wonder if they’re ready to bet on him before another team wants to, because maybe all Jasson needs is confidence to develop his full potential. With the offseason underway, New York has the chance to bet on the future or keep looking for quick fixes outside the organization.
