The Yankees have a $260 million, 10-time Gold Glove third baseman on their radar

The injury to New York Yankees third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera opened up the possibility of a possible trade with the St. Louis Cardinals and a player valued at $260 million.

Nolan Arenado, a 10-time Gold Glove winner and Cardinals third baseman, has been on the Bronx Bombers radar for some time as he has the necessary requirements to cover the position after Cabrera’s ankle fracture.

Brian Cashman and the possibility of acquiring Arenado

However, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman was clear when talking about the possibility of a trade for the player: “We’ll see. It’s hard to get better at this time of year. We have what we have. We’ll evaluate it and take advantage of opportunities as they present themselves at any position”.

After Juan Soto left to join the Mets, the Yankees did not stop and had a very active offseason and managed to sign some players who have helped the team to remain in first place in the American League East so far this season in

Major League Baseball.

The Bronx Bombers signed left-hander Max Fried for $218 million, Paul Goldschmidt for one year and $12.5 million, and Cody Bellinger, who was traded from the Cubs.

However, now that Oswald Peraza and Jorbit Vivas share third base and Cashman has yet to decide whether to sign Nolan Arenado, the trade seems unlikely.

“We try to go to the market and analyze the differences between what we have and what we lack, and we try to take advantage of opportunities. They have been doing what we expected,” Cashman said when talking about the role of Peraza and Vivas.

So far in the 2025 season, Arenado has hit five home runs and driven in 21 runs, with a .242 batting average, .313 OBP and .695 OPS, and while the trade deadline is still a few months away, the statistics do not justify a player of Arenado’s caliber.
